Whether it’s the start of a new year or the middle of one, you want it to be the finest year ever! I urge that you spend some time clarifying your Purpose and Vision.
The basics to providing you a focus and direction are a clear purpose and vision. Small businesses, however, are all too often lacking in this area. What you need to do is straightforward, but it may be difficult for you if you’ve never done it before. Here are a few suggestions to help you make this year your greatest yet.
A clear purpose explains what you want to achieve with your company. Have you lost sight of your goal? Do you recall what prompted you to start or join your company in the first place?
Three questions to consider as you work to re-ignite your company’s purpose:
What are your true desires in life?
Things you genuinely don’t want in your life?
In order to live the life you desire, what are you prepared to sacrifice?
Answer these questions truthfully, and create your business around the lifestyle you desire. That’s what I’m talking about: a burning desire.
Here’s a suggestion for coming up with your purpose and vision.
Consider the most fantastic consequence you can possible conceive for your company. What are the services that your ideal client would seek from you? Create a vision for yourself in which you are ‘the resource’ for delivering that.
Examine your values and ideals to see where you want to take your company in the future. Find your favorite way to unwind quietly and allow your imagination to wander into the realm of possibility.
Imagine yourself in a private movie theater, seeing a 10-year-old version of yourself. You’ve been joined by the show’s star as the movie comes to a close. Ask them any questions you want about how they came to be so successful in the film. What was the goal and vision of your future self?
This may sound foolish at first, but if you realize that the visioning process can work, you’ll be amazed at the results.
